This is a post all about Generators, generator etiquette, baffle boxes, safety, and being considerate. The electricity we are supplied by the Org is to be solely used for the kitchen, bar, and common areas. There WILL BE shared power at the bar for SMALL things like cell phones. NO E BIKE CHARGING IN CAMP. There will be NO plugging into the main power boxes in camp for personal use. Seriously, any extension cords being used to tap into this power supply will be unplugged. Please be radically self-reliant. If you absolutely need power for your RV/AC or for anything else, you need to bring your own power source, which for many, will be a generator.

One of the things I hear almost simultaneously when I mention generators, is "baffle box". What is it?

This little video shows a very simply constructed box that can be modified to any size/shape of generator. It really helps to "baffle" the noise and keep it to a minimum for those around you. I hear using some foam insulation inside the box really helps too. Ours is a work camp and as such, we have people working round the clock shifts, which also means people are trying to sleep all hours of the day and night. I realize this is Burning Man, I really do, but we ask that you be respectful and considerate of your neighbors. Please use your generator only when you absolutely need it and if you are bringing one, please take the time to either buy or make a baffling device that will help keep the buzzing noise to a minimum. Thank you.
